Goal Charts
My six year old son and I sat down to make him a goal chart. When we finished I opened up another file and started to type. My son read over my shoulder as I went. “What are you doing, mommy?” He asked. “I finished your goal chart, so now I’m making mine.” I said. “What do I need to work on in order to be a better mommy?” He thought for a few seconds. “Play more.” He said. “And teach me things.” I agreed, so those things went down on my goal chart, too. If he needs to collect stickers to work on things, I don’t see why I shouldn’t collect stickers as well. Life is about positive changes at 32 just as it is at six.
If your mommy-goals or daddy-goals are different from mine, feel free to leave a comment with what your goals are, and I’d be happy to make you a PDF with your own goals as well as one for your child.

I love this! Thanks for sharing.
‘mommy spoke to me quietly’
oh that’s on mine for sure..
Yes! I do this too. It helps me be less driven by my to-do list.
My mama goal chart (an Excel spreadsheet with filled in boxes) includes:
- baby massage
- reading
- sensory activity
- made my baby laugh out loud
- made music together
My kids are 16, 12, 10 and 7. Sometimes I worry about the amount of TV they watch and computer games they play. Recently we experimented with a screen-free 48 hours for everyone – myself and my husband included. My eldest wrote a notice “No TV please” which he stuck to the television screen.
The kids did more board games and activities and played together and drew and played soccer outside.
I moped about the house!
I learned something about myself – how I am sometimes dependent on the TV to unwind.
And I learned my kids are more resourceful and less attached to the computer and TV than I thought.
I did this today with my nearly 3 year old. She’s been a rascal all week so something had to change…I asked what she wanted more from me and her Dad. Her dad now has to read her stories every day and I have to talk gently and do crafts every day…wonder what next week has in store! It’s amazing how perceptive toddlers can be though…everything came from her! Thanks for inspiring me..yet again!
