Today the laundry waits. Daddy builds with Legos and her older brother. I hold her near as she sleeps instead of sneaking off for chores. I examine little hands and tiny feet with rough skin across the tops from being dragged everywhere as she crawls. Four little teeth in a sleepy open-mouthed dream smile. Slow and peaceful breaths. Today we’re keeping our connection by laying near and snuggling close while the rain falls outside. Sleep is a safe and lovely place, little one. See how comfy it is?

Hi, thank you so much for your blog..I enjoy reading it the second you post something new. I was hoping you would suggest a wrap that you use/like. My daug hter is 12 weeks old and although I love the moby it is way to hot for us in CA. Is there a type you use? I love wearing her and hope to hear back from you. Thank you so much!!

for hot weather I use 6 yards of island breeze cotton gauze from fabric.com. I just slice it lengthwise down the middle and have two wraps. the edges can be left unfinished and they fray a little bit. I trim any longer strings. the gauze is strong, lightweight, and comfortable. El cheapo, too.
The Moby I could only comfortably wear up to 60 degrees. The gauze I’m comfortable with in 90 degree weather. It’s no hotter than simply carrying my DD.

My little guy is almost 19 months old and I rarely rest through an entire nap with him. Thanks for reminding me that I can be done! Also, I love the sleep smile comment. I had forgotten about them for the longest time and then I saw one a few weeks ago and realized they’ve been there all along, but the darkened room makes it hard for me to see them! Precious beings. Precious moments.

That is a beautiful picture! I napped with my baby yesterday for the first time in a while, and it was glorious!
I’m also going to copy your wrap idea, that actually sounds like something I can afford and do (cutting and no sewing??)

yep. I just buy the right length, fold it lengthwise and clip it with clothes pins to keep it folded, then take sewing shears and cut it. it takes about 15 minutes to turn 6-7 yards of fabric into two wraps. wash ’em, dry ’em and wear ’em.
Keep in mind though that I can’t guarantee that the company won’t change the gauze and make it less strong. the stuff I use is very strong even though it is thin. It can support the weight of my 3yo son. I have seen some gauze fabrics that rip very easily. I know the fabric because I have used it a lot (and did a co-op buy for Nurshable last year) but can’t guarantee that fabric.com or their manufacturer won’t ever change it. 🙂 I’ve been buying it from them since 2011 though and it’s been consistent and lovely.
